Re-connecting you to your innate joyfulness is my goal.

Healing through play is my superpower!

Have authentic, meaningful connections

Along the path of life, there are long dark nights and everyday struggles. There are massive disruptions and there are stretches when it feels as if nothing will change.

There are moments when you feel like you can (or must) go it alone.

In truth, however, we humans need other people: to love and support us, to hold our stories and our secrets, to help us heal and become whole again.

We need to build relationships that will help us heal old wounds, achieve growth, and make joy a priority.

Kirsten Goffena

LPC, LMHC, EMDR

I’m Kirsten Goffena, a professional counselor, play therapist, and healer of trauma who is licensed in both Colorado and Florida, and I am here to walk beside you as you recover from developmental/childhood trauma and find a true, lasting sense of wholeness.

My own path has been a winding one, full of both heartbreak and deep connection. I know what it is to endure and heal my own trauma. I also know what it is to take my own medicine to make that healing happen: reconnect to the playful, magical energy of childhood (even if childhood allowed for all too little play and magic).

These twists and turns in the path of life aren’t all metaphorical for me either.

In your journey through life, there was a moment of disruption.

It might have been a singular, traumatic event. It’s more likely that a number of little “tiny t” traumas accumulated over time and cut you off from your own sense of who you are.

You might be looking for help as you try to cope with something difficult that happened recently. As strong and capable as you have always been, you may find you don’t have the tools to face the demands of life right now. New challenges can trigger feelings that spring from childhood adversity, also known as developmental trauma, and can make life feel completely overwhelming/unmanageablethings feel downright impossible.

This sort of disruption can happen to couples and families, too. As a result of this disruption and disconnection, you may find yourself suffering from anxiety, depression, PTSD, and cycles of conflict.

Whether there was a moment of loss or betrayal or a series of tiny disconnections that have a way of pulling people apart, you might find you’ve lost track of the relationships that mean the most to you.

In 2021, I moved from the mountains of Colorado to the Gulf Coast of Florida. As a person who grew up in England in a Norwegian family, I never expected to take up open-water swimming with dolphins and sharks, but here I am! Why did I make this move, you ask? For love. My husband of thirty-three years made a career change and after living 1500 miles apart for a little while, we realized that our path to joy had to be a shared one.

So, I closed down my well-established private practice in Fort Collins, CO and opened the doors to a new practice based in Gulf Breeze, Florida

I welcome you into my sacred healing space where you can learn to make peace with your past through playful interventions and move into your future unburdened and free.
